A Museum of Australian Democracy exhibition hosted in Parramatta by Riverside Theatres and the Whitlam Institute
Behind the Lines celebrates Australia's wonderful tradition of political cartooning. Each cartoon is a snapshot of the major events and personalities of the last year. With wit and wisdom they provide an opportunity to reflect on the state of Australian politics and expose the robust nature of Australian democracy. Exhibiting in the Riverside Theatres foyer from 11 April to 27 May 2012!

We have assembled a modest tribute to Margaret Whitlam here on this webpage, drawing on the Whitlam Prime Ministerial Collection. We expect to offer a more permanent recognition of this great Australian at a later date.
The quiet death of Mrs Margaret Whitlam AO overnight (17 March) has stirred many emotions for all here at the Whitlam Institute.
Since the Institute’s foundation in 2000 Margaret has been guardian, benefactor and friend; a frequent visitor and most faithful supporter of this Institute’s work and ambitions. While there will be time to speak at greater length of such things, for now we would simply say farewell.
Mere mention of the word ‘population’ evokes all sorts of passions and responses, fears and uncertainties. In this one-off forum the Whitlam Institute and the UWS Urban Research Centre bring together three leading thinkers to unpack the issues, present the data and offer you an opportunity to ask the questions of the experts.
Speakers:
Glenn Withers AO, Professor of Public Policy in the Crawford School at the Australian National University
Pauline McGuirk, Professor of Human Geography and Director of the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies at the University of Newcastle
Kevin McCracken, Associate Professor with the Department of Environment and Geography - Human Geography, Macquarie University
Chair: Professor Phillip O'Neill, UWS Urban Reseach Centre
We were very fortunate to have two respected international figures, Professor Lee Badgett and Mr Boris Dittrich, guests of Australian Marriage Equality, to address the question drawing on the legislative experience and the existing body of relevant research.
