Behind the Lines exhibition and events

A Museum of Australian Democracy exhibition hosted in Parramatta by Riverside Theatres and the Whitlam Institute

Behind the Lines celebrates Australia's wonderful tradition of political cartooning. Each cartoon is a snapshot of the major events and personalities of the last year. With wit and wisdom they provide an opportunity to reflect on the state of Australian politics and expose the robust nature of Australian democracy. Exhibiting in the Riverside Theatres foyer from 11 April to 27 May 2012!

Mrs Margaret Whitlam AO
While saddened at this time of farewell, all here at the Whitlam Institute take great comfort in the memories and stories of Margaret’s life in which we have been privileged to have shared in a small way.

We have assembled a modest tribute to Margaret Whitlam here on this webpage, drawing on the Whitlam Prime Ministerial Collection. We expect to offer a more permanent recognition of this great Australian at a later date.
On the Death of Mrs Margaret Whitlam AO

The quiet death of Mrs Margaret Whitlam AO overnight (17 March) has stirred many emotions for all here at the Whitlam Institute.

Since the Institute’s foundation in 2000 Margaret has been guardian, benefactor and friend; a frequent visitor and most faithful supporter of this Institute’s work and ambitions. While there will be time to speak at greater length of such things, for now we would simply say farewell.
