Teaching Development

Resources

The Teaching Development Unit provides a range of targeted and 'just-in-time' activities to enhance and extend the teaching practice of UWS academic staff.

Customised sessions

TDU can tailor sessions to suit particular groups and disciplines. Customised sessions allow staff to focus on specific needs, and are contextualised to practice. Recent customised sessions include 'Giving effective and efficient feedback' and 'Using visual media in your teaching'. Customised sessions can be offered on any campus.

Open workshop program

The focus of workshops in 2011 will primarily be on the upgrade to Learn 9.1. These workshops will be offered in a range of delivery modes and will focus on the extended capabilities of Learn 9.1 such as collaborative group spaces, assessment, student monitoring, and interactive content. Learn 9.1 will support the University's strategic directions in retention of students, early identification of students-at-risk and the provision of appropriate intervention strategies.

Learn 9 upgrade workshops

Learn 9 Upgrade workshops have a different registration process to other teaching development activities.

Curriculum design

The Teaching Development Unit also works collaboratively with Schools in the process of curriculum design, with a particular focus on designing for blended learning, and designing assessment for units or programs.

In 2011, TDU is collaborating with Curtin University to adapt for UWS their curriculum mapping tool and process, Curtin Curriculum Mapping (CCMap) Tool. The Curtin tool was developed with ALTC funding to help staff engage in curriculum redesign and renewal.

Research supervision development

TDU works closely with both the Office of Research Services and the Schools to support the provision of the Research Supervisor Development Program (opens in a new window) [PDF, 109KB], a compulsory program for all higher degree research supervisors. Registration for this workshop is through Staff Online (opens in a new window)> MyCareer Online.
