Biography

Corazon is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism. She completed her BS and MS degrees from the University of the Philippines and her PhD from Oklahoma State University (USA). She has published numerous refereed articles and presented conference papers on her research in ecotourism, visitor and environmental impact studies, urban tourism, environmental monitoring, wildlife ecology, protected areas, and biodiversity conservation. She has written a book, entitled “ Philippine Biodiversity: Principles and Practice” (2006, 495 pp.).  Before coming to Australia, she served as the Director of the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau of the Philippine Department of the Environment and Natural Resources. She was on the Executive Committee of the Species Survival Commission of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature for ten years, serving as the focal point for training and capacity building component (1996-2000) and the regionalisation component (2000-2004).  She is also a member of the World Commission for Protected Areas in Australian-New Zealand and the global Task Force of Parks and Cities. Her professional and research experiences in South East Asia and Australia have enriched her teaching and interactions with students.
