ATAR
In 2009, NSW Year 12 students who were eligible to receive a University Admissions Index (UAI) will instead receive an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). The ATAR is being introduced across all states and territories (other than Queensland) over the next 2 years in an aim to move towards national consistency.
The change will not disadvantage students applying for a course at UWS. The rules for the ATAR are exactly the same as those of the UAI. Year 12 students will still have the same scaling process and ranking order. The change has no bearing on Year 12 students' current studies or potential for acceptance to UWS.
There are some minor changes that relate to ATAR:
- The highest rank will now be an ATAR of 99.95 (previously this was a UAI score of 100). There is no disadvantage to students as achieving an ATAR of 99.95 is the same as achieving a UAI of 100
- The ATAR will indicate a student’s position in relation to the Year 7 students they began high school with, rather than Year 10 students
With the move from UAI to ATAR you will notice a slight change in the UAI cut-off (that is published in the UWS Course Guides and UWS A Guide to Study 2010) to the ATAR cut-off that is published on the UWS Future Students Site. A UAI to ATAR conversion table is available for viewing on the UAC Website.
Please refer to the UWS Future Students site for the ATAR cut-offs or the UAC 2010 Guide that will be available late July, early August this year.
If you have any questions about ATAR, UAC has developed a comprehensive ATAR – Frequently Asked Questions page on the UAC Website.
