It is important to take the application process seriously and to put in the extra effort as this can make all the difference when the university is making its selections.
The personal statement especially requires you to think about your life goals, achievements and ambitions and asks you to present your strengths.
UWS will make a Scholarship Offer after your application is assessed as successful. The time taken to assess your application depends on the prerequisites that need to be met.
You must accept your Scholarship Offer by the date on your letter or it will lapse. As soon as you accept your offer you need to ensure that you are enrolled in the appropriate University of Western Sydney undergraduate course.
Your Scholarship Application is assessed
If your scholarship application is successful you will receive an Official Scholarship Offer tenable at the University of Western Sydney.
The University of Western Sydney undergraduate scholarships can be offered for study in any UWS course, or for study in specific colleges, courses or campuses. They can be divided into broad categories based on how applicants are selected: on academic merit or equity grounds, or a combination of both.
Group A: UWS Funded Scholarships
1. UWS Academic Excellence and Leadership Scholarships
The University of Western Sydney is committed to providing students with a contemporary learning environment. To further this aim, the University has introduced a number of scholarship opportunities based on academic achievement and leadership qualities.
2. UWS Opportunity and Indigenous Achievement Scholarships
The University of Western Sydney is committed to providing a number of scholarship opportunities, to support access for talented students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
Please note: All (Group A) UWS Funded Scholarships require the scholarship recipient to either reside in and/or have undertaken their Higher School Certificate or International Baccalaureate within Greater Western Sydney as defined by UWS. (See GWS Postcode Section)
Group B: Donor Funded Scholarships
The University annually awards donor funded scholarships, providing support for students based on both academic achievement and equity considerations. This funding is made possible through the generous support of our donors, who may be an alumnus, business, individual, council or other organisation with an interest in UWS.
Group C: Commonwealth (Equity) Scholarships
The Commonwealth Scholarships Program was introduced in 2004 to assist students from low socio-economic backgrounds, in particular Indigenous students and those from rural and regional areas, with the costs associated with higher education. Only Australian citizens or holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
There are currently five (5) categories of scholarship within this group including:
You can apply for most of the UWS Scholarships (Group A and Group B) using the Application form(s) from our website.
Please note that applications have closed. Applications will open in September 2009.
Don’t forget that you also have to apply for admission to the University of Western Sydney through UAC. Obtaining and accepting a UWS Scholarship does not guarantee you an Offer to a course at UWS.
As part of your scholarship application you must provide a Statutory Declaration verifying your current residential address (check Definitions and Criteria for eligible Greater Western Sydney postcodes; some donor scholarships may be available to residents outside this area). Also, please verify the Important Dates and Guidelines for Competing for each of the Scholarships that are available at UWS.
Please visit the Commonwealth Attorney-General's website to find out more information about providing a Statutory Declaration, including a printable Statutory Declaration form and information on obtaining certification from a Justice of the Peace.
Where requested, applicants must provide the required certified documentary evidence to support your application. Please note:
All scholarship offers are conditional upon enrolment in a relevant course at a UWS campus and the applicant meeting the eligibility requirements of the scholarship.
The Scholarships Office will send letters of offer to successful applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified following the completion of all scholarship offerings. UWS reserves the right to reallocate scholarship offers which are declined or withdrawn from those who do not complete acceptance procedures, or from those who are otherwise confirmed as ineligible.
