UWS provides candidate support and resources. There are internal scholarships, research seminars and workshops. Workshop topics include presentation skills, interpretative and quantitative methodologies, architecture of the thesis, project management, argumentation and final stages of thesis preparation. The Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) has awarded the University the maximum 5 stars for its resources policy supporting higher degree research students.
Candidates are expected to participate and contribute to college conferences and other research events in the school or centre. All research candidates have at least two supervisors. This is to ensure a range of skills available to the candidate and continuity of supervision during periods of absence of a supervisor. UWS holds supervisor forums for academics to discuss research education practice and changes.
Applicants are strongly advised to discuss their application with an academic advisor. All UWS research candidates have a panel of at least two supervisors. It is recommended that you contact a Research Coordinator in the relevant area in the first instance. A Research Coordinator may be able to recommend a suitable supervisor for your proposed project.
