This Frequently Asked Questions page is designed to answer general parking related enquires.
As signposted on entry, UWS campuses are restricted parking areas. UWS operates a paid parking system on all campuses, with the exception of Nirimba Education Precinct, Blacktown campus, which is governed by a community title. All vehicles parked on a UWS campus must, in accordance with the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy, display a valid UWS parking permit on the lower, driver's side windscreen/dash.
To find out how to purchase an annual or half year UWS parking permit that will best suit your needs, please refer to either For Students, For Permanent Staff or For Casuals/Others. Annual parking permits are valid up to 31 December of the year of purchase. Half year parking permits are valid from 1 January to 30 June or 1 July to 31 December.
All UWS campuses are private property and the University as the owner, has the right to regulate access to and utilisation of the campuses. The UWS Parking and Traffic Policy defines UWS's requirements with respect to the entry, operation and parking of vehicles on UWS campuses. The policy applies to all vehicles and the drivers of those vehicles whenever they are entering or on a UWS campus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Short term parking bays (Green Bays) are available on all campuses. Parking in green bays is limited to 15 minutes. Free parking permits are available from the nearest Pay and Display permit machine.
Motorcycle riders are not required to purchase a permit if parked in an allocated motorcycle bay. If parked in a car space, a permit is required but not required to be displayed. Instead, motorcycles and the permit purchased must be registered with the onsite Campus Safety and Security unit.
If the owner of the motorcycle owns a vehicle (other than a motorcycle), the driver will be required to purchase and display a valid UWS permit on the vehcile and is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy.
Motorcycle parking zones are available at all UWS campuses. Please ask the Campus Safety and Security Staff on your campus where the motorcycle bays can be found.
If you have a valid Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) card, you are not required to purchase a parking permit from UWS to park in a yellow, blue or disabled parking bay on a UWS campus, however, you must display your valid RTA MPS card.
To find out how to purchase an annual or half year UWS parking permit that will best suit your needs, please refer to either For Students, For Permanent Staff or For Casuals/Others.
There are three forms of confirmation for iPay transactions:
If you lose connection with the iPay system while waiting for your printable Payment Record to appear on screen, please refer to your email account before applying for another parking permit. iPay will confirm you're parking transaction via the email address you provided on your parking application form.

Yes. However, parking permits are electrostatic and can easily be transferred between vehicles. Up to two vehicles can be registered against one parking permit.
To upgrade/downgrade your parking permit you will need to purchase the permit required through iPay that will better suit your needs, please refer to either For Students, For Permanent Staff or For Casuals/Others.
Once your new permit is received, return your replaced permit to UWS Parking. Upon receipt of your permit and written request a refund will be processed.
Unfortunately, the iPay site does not allow you to pay the difference between the two permits.
To upgrade/downgrade your parking permit you will need to complete the Staff Application for Parking Permit and Payment Authority form (MS Word, 74Kb). To find a permit to better suit your needs, please refer to For Permanent Staff.
Upon receipt of your application a temporary parking permit will be issued to you via email to display in place of your parking permit. Your permit will need to be returned to UWS Parking for your new parking permit to be issued.
Note: An ‘approval code’ is required to be able to purchase a Communal Blue or Dedicated Red parking permit.
There are a number of different types of parking permits for parking on UWS campuses. For more information, please refer to either For students, For Permanent Staff or For Casuals/Others.
To find out how much UWS parking permits cost, please refer to Parking Fees.
UWS does not offer pro rata permits. Annual parking permits are valid for a full calendar year, up to 31 December of the year of purchase, and half year parking permits are valid from 1 January to 30 June or 1 July to 31 December.
No reductions to the applicable fee will be considered.
Pay and Display one day parking permits can be purchased from the permit machines on each UWS campus.
You are entitled to print and display the tax invoice on the driver's side dashboard as proof of payment for up to 10 working days when purchasing permits via iPay. During that time, the parking permit will be posted to you.
If your annual or half year parking permit purchased by iPay, doesn’t arrive within 10 work days, you must complete a New Permit Not Received Form.
At all other times, all vehicles seeking to park on UWS campuses must display a valid parking permit. The display of notes or receipts does not replace a valid parking permit.
No. If you print the tax invoice you received on completion of the iPay process, you can display that tax invoice as proof of payment on the driver's side dashboard of your vehicle for 10 days. During that time, you should receive your parking permit.
If your annual or half year parking permit purchased by iPay, doesn’t arrive at the address you provided within 10 work days, you must complete a New Permit Not Received Form.
All vehicles parking within UWS campuses must display a valid parking permit on the lower driver's side windscreen. If you have left your annual/half year permit on another vehicle, you will need to purchase a Pay and Display one day parking permit to avoid a parking fine.
The purpose of the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy is to assist in facilitating the proper and effective management of parking and traffic on all UWS campuses. The availability of car park bays on UWS is at a premium. Restrictions are required for availability and equity.
There are a number of reasons why. For more information, please see Parking Fines.
To find out how to avoid receiving a parking fine, please see Parking Fines.
If you have received a parking fine your options are outlined on the reverse of the notice. They are also listed on the State Debt Recovery Office website (opens in a new window).
There is no provision for approaches to be made to UWS regarding parking fines.
Parking maintenance costs UWS in excess of $8 million per year. The revenue collected from parking fines assists in offsetting these expenses.
All parking permits are sent via Australia Post as per the address details you provide on your parking application form. Parking permits will be issued within 10 days of receipt of your parking application and payment notification.
Annual parking permits are valid up to 31 December of the year of purchase.
Half year parking permits are valid from 1 January to 30 June or 1 July to 31 December of the year of purchase.
When purchasing a UWS parking permit, you are given the option to nominate two vehicles per parking permit.
Parking permits are electrostatic and can easily be transferred between nominated vehicles.
To add a second vehicle to your details on the parking permit database, please complete the Change of Parking Permit Details Form.
For a single fee, you will receive one permit. Individuals who own and drive more than one vehicle must register both vehicles (up to a maximum of two) and transfer the permit between those vehicles as required.

To add a second vehicle to your permit record, please complete the Change of Parking Permit Details Form.
While UWS does endeavour to provide sufficient parking, access is limited by the physical parking facilities available. Parking permits entitle you to seek parking, but do not guarantee that a parking bay will be available. Unavailability of parking bays is no excuse for violation of the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy. Where parking bays are full, parking permit holders should contact Campus Safety and Security Staff on the relevant campus for advice. For alternatives to parking on a UWS campus, please refer to the Transport Access Guides downloadable from the Campus web pages.
If a Pay and Display one day parking permit machine is out of order, please contact Campus Safety and Security Staff on the relevant campus for advice.
Contact Campus Safety and Security Staff and advise your bay number and carpark. It is an offence to park in someone else's reserved bay.

To find out if you are eligible for a refund of your UWS parking permit, please refer to the UWS Parking and Traffic Policy.
You will need to advise your invited guests/event attendees that, as signposted on entry, UWS campuses are restricted parking areas and the University operates a paid parking system.
