Tracking and Improving Performance

Tracking and Improvement System for Learning and Teaching (TILT)

This system consists of a ‘nested’ series of data-gathering tools and a linked set of performance reports. The system incorporates data from a number of sources:

  • the UWS Student Satisfaction Survey covers the student’s total experience of the University

  • the Annual Course Reports (requires staff login) include performance data on student demand, enrolments (EFTSL), retention, progression, completions, graduate outcomes and feedback on the course experience, including the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and Graduate Destination Survey (GDS)

  • the Student Feedback on Unit survey covers the student experience of each unit

  • the Student Evaluation and Experience Questionnaire (SEEQ) provides student feedback on teaching.

These instruments are supplemented by the UWS Employer Survey, the UWS Image Survey and a survey of non-returning students. Full Details of TILT [PDF - 34kb]. Both qualitative and quantitative data are gathered. An important source of qualitative data is CEQuery [PDF - 66kb], which analyses comments on the CEQ.

A number of aggregated performance reports are produced for review and analysis by the UWS Strategy and Quality Committee and the UWS Executive each year.

UWS Survey and Feedback System

Information about survey instruments in use at UWS is available from our surveys page. Student survey feedback is systematically analysed in order to identify strengths and weaknesses, and to target priority initiatives for development and improvement.

Action for Improvement

The University is strongly committed to ‘closing the loop’ on the key areas for improvement that emerges from the feedback it receives.

At present the key action areas for improvement are:

  • improved orientation for our students
  • more convenient and effective enrolment processes
  • ensuring students’ queries are responded to promptly and effectively
  • optimising student retention (PDF - 116kb)
  • enhancing our approaches to student assessment and feedback
  • being more systematic in linking students to the many support programs available to them (for more information, please refer to the Learning and Teaching site).
