
The Nanoscale Organisation and Dynamics Group (Nano) is a multidisciplinary research team within the School of Science and Health at UWS, whose ultimate aim is to establish UWS as an internationally recognised research group for molecular association, organisation and dynamics with an emphasis on nanobiotechnical and nanomedical applications (e.g., drug binding, nanofluidics). The group, which is led by Professor Bill Price, comprises members with a diverse array of talents ranging from Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) to drug design and analysis and functional genomics. The research objectives of the group are to develop novel experimental (especially NMR-based) techniques and theoretical models for studying molecular association, organization and dynamics, and functional nanomaterials. Indeed, the distinctive niche of the group is its multidisciplinary structure which allows projects to be undertaken seamlessly from the very fundamental through to the very applied.
Nanotechnology is the study of a combination of sciences on the 'nano' scale the molecular level of organisation, on which all scientific disciplines are based. Nanobiotechnology uses nanoscale principles and techniques to understand and transform biological systems, thereby giving us the means to make new materials and new devices.
