UWS has an Advanced Thermal Analytical Facility at the UWS Parramatta North Campus. This facility has applications for forensic science, product contaminants, pharmaceutical applications, biochemical description of very small samples (10-15 micron), cell clusters and tissue fragments, chemical components in very small samples, tissue abnormalities based on reference material, diagnosis and staging of diseases such as benign and malignant cancers. It is exceptional in terms of sensitivity and versatility. It is unique for NSW and perhaps for Australia and has many applications for industry.

On Friday 12 September Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research launched the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) Report on 'Energy and Nanotechnologies: Strategy for Australia's Future'. This Report can be viewed at the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering website. This Report has eight recommendations.

The UWS Nanotechnology Network is already working to fulfill many of these recommendations particularly with regards to recognition, national coordination, skilled workforce and codified knowledge, increased awareness, international participation and Codes & Standards.

The UWS Nanotechnology Network was pivotal in the formation of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Nano Business Forum (ANBF). The ANBF, which is incorporated in ACT, is a national organisation to further the interests of private sector companies in the business of nanotechnology in Australia.

The UWS Nanotechnology Network will continue to strive to bring stimulating and innovative speakers to provide information about advances in nanotechnology to the business and wider community.
