Molecular Medicine Research Group

The cornerstone of modern Biomedical Science is Translational Research - most commonly described as ‘bench-to-bedside’. This has developed most productively on an integrative foundation of Systems Biology techniques and approaches. The UWS Molecular Medicine Research Group has been established to exploit our immediate local strengths in these areas, as well as capitalise on and foster relationships with local hospitals, including the nascent Ingham Health Research Institute and the Sydney Western and Sydney South Western Area Health Services.

We aim to promote and integrate the interdisciplinary Basic and Clinical research potential at UWS. Our pathway is multidisciplinary and collaborative, cutting across scientific research areas in the University as a whole. 

The mission of the MMRG is:

• To improve the long-term health and well being of Australians by applying molecular systems biology techniques to treat a range of medical conditions of multi-factorial origins and pathologies
• To develop and translate benchtop research into bedside therapeutics by identifying underlying molecular mechanisms and critical biomarkers for prevention and detection of medical conditions
• To raise new generations of researchers with highly diverse molecular skill sets to tackle these issues

• consolidating a solid local and national research portfolio
  
• reinforcing and expanding the international presence of UWS through established collaborations and by pursuing wider, jointly-funded initiatives with a breadth of research-intensive international centres.
