Windows 7 is coming to UWS in 2012. The initial rollout will be to the general purpose computer labs used by students, and fixed computers in teaching spaces. The rollout to staff will commence in the first quarter of 2012.
This page outlines our plans to move to Windows 7, Office 2010 and Internet Explorer 8. We will continue to provide more information as it becomes available and will update the frequently asked questions (FAQs) as we receive them. Yes. AirUWS-Lite is configured to work with Windows 7 and many users are already using Windows 7 with the wireless network.
In the same way as before. To change your password, you will still use the MyUWSAccount process.
Yes. Your files and folders are in the same place as before.
Generally, yes. However, some specialist applications (particularly very old versions) may not be compatible. All our core desktop applications have been successfully tested with Windows 7. Staff with particular queries should contact the Windows 7 team via: win7@uws.edu.au.

From a student perspective, the main impact is that general purpose computer labs and fixed computers in teaching spaces will run Windows 7, 64 bit, in 2012.
No, there is no need to upgrade to Windows 7. At this time, both Windows Vista and Windows 7 will be running in parallel. Only new PCs will receive Windows 7 at this stage.
This can vary from person to person, depending on the number and type of applications they have. Our testing has shown that most upgrades will take up to two hours before you're up and running.
Not at the moment. Once the rollout commences, our priority will be providing Windows 7 for new computers. However, if you have a specific need for Windows 7 that cannot be met by your existing platform, please contact the Windows 7 team on win7@uws.edu.au with your requirements, and a business case for the request.
