eduroam® is coming to UWS

UWS expects to begin participating in eduroam® in the near future. In the meantime, the information provided on these pages allows you to gain an understanding of the services eduroam® will provide for both visitors to UWS and UWS eduroam® users.

These pages will be updated when participation commences.

This page is aimed at UWS staff and students using eduroam® facilities while visiting other participating organisations. Visitors to UWS intending to use eduroam® should use the visitors to UWS page.

What is eduroam®?

eduroam® is a TERENA registered trademark, and an abbreviation of educational roaming. Members of participating organisations worldwide are able to securely and wirelessly access the Internet using their regular wireless login credentials while visiting any other participating organisation. You will no longer need to obtain a guest user account when you visit participating organisations.

UWS connects to eduroam® via the Australian Academic Research Network (opens in a new window) (AARNet).

UWS eduroam® users will use their MyUWSAccount credentials to login when they visit participating organisations.

How do I get access to eduroam®?

Access to eduroam® is available to all staff and students with an active MyUWSAccount. Conditions apply.

When visiting a participating organisation, you will need to connect to the organisation's eduroam® wireless system, which will usually use the SSID eduroam. Login with your MyUWSAccount credentials. Please note that your user ID or login name will be:

your MyUWSAccount ID@uws.edu.au

not your MyUWSAccount ID alone, as it is at UWS. Don't forget to append @uws.edu.au to your ID.

Your password will be your regular MyUWSAccount password.

More information will be available on the visited organisation's website, including advice on software that may be required for access at that organisation.

Where can I use eduroam®?

Once UWS starts participating, eduroam® will be available to its staff and students at organisations worldwide. Visit the eduroam® website (opens in a new window) for maps showing participating organisations.

UWS staff and students will not have access to eduroam® while on UWS campuses. If local wireless access is required, you should use AirUWS, the UWS wireless network (no charge applies).

What can I do with eduroam®?

You should be able to access web services (HTTP and HTTPS protocols) and email (POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocols). The visited organisation may offer additional services.

Security

eduroam® uses the most secure encryption and authentication standards available.

Support

The first point of support for UWS eduroam® users is this web page and associated information. Further information will be available on the visited organisation's eduroam® web pages. eduroam® users should review the web based information before contacting the local support service for assistance.
