Welcome to the
School of Humanities and Languages

The School of Humanities and Languages specialises in modern languages (European, Asian, Arabic), interpreting and translation, anthropology, media and visual studies, history, linguistics, literature, philosophy, political and social theory, as well as interdisciplinary cultural studies including Asian and Islamic Studies. Our accredited programs in interpreting and translation provide practical education to deal with real-world problems in the workplace and are based on the professional work experience and research of our staff.

National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies

UWS, in partnership with the University of Melbourne and Griffith University, offers a range of units focusing on Islamic studies. The units offered by UWS aim to help advance knowledge and understanding of Islam and showcase Australia's strengths in the field of Islamic studies.

The Dean's Scholar program

Exceptional students can apply for entry to our prestigious BA (Dean's Scholar) program and gain access to a tailored mentoring program.
