Graduation ceremonies

Graduation is an important milestone for all students, marking the end of a period of learning and the beginning of a new career. UWS has two graduation sessions in Australia each year; April and September.

If you are in your final session of study or have completed your course, you need to apply to graduate.

How to apply to graduate through MySR

  • Log on to MyUWS and select MyStudentRecords (MySR) under MyUWS Links
  • Once in MySR, select ‘Apply to Graduate’ listed under Graduation on the left menu
  • Click the ‘Apply’ button next to the course you will be graduating from
  • Complete the details on the online form and press ‘Submit’
  • Pay your graduation fees (whether attending in person or graduating in absentia) through iPay

If you are having trouble applying through MySR, review the FAQs.

See the above ‘key dates’ box for the application opening and closing dates.

Once your application has been assessed by your school you will receive an email in your student email account confirming your eligibility.

Approximately six weeks before the ceremonies a letter will be sent to your postal address (as listed in MySR) and your student email, containing important details about your ceremony, including the date and time, payment information and guest ticket information.

If you wish to attend your graduation ceremony, you must pay the compulsory graduation attendance fee of AUD $55. You must make your payment using iPay by the date stated in your letter in order to attend your ceremony. If you are unable to attend your ceremony you will graduate 'in absentia'.

How do I apply if I am a Research Higher Degree student?

Research Higher Degree students (Doctorates and Masters Honours) are not required to complete an Application to Graduate form. This does not apply to Master of Teaching (Honours) students. Master of Teaching (Honours) students need to apply to graduate.

Research Higher Degree students should contact the Postgraduate Research Student Administration on sa-research@uws.edu.au if they have any graduation queries.

Graduating 'in absentia'

If you are unable to attend your ceremony, you will graduate 'in absentia' and your testamur and AHEGS will be posted to you after the graduation ceremonies have taken place.

To graduate 'in absentia' log on to iPay, select graduate in absentia and pay the relevant fee for your documents to be sent to you via registered post. Please make sure that your postal address in MySR is up to date. Current graduate postal charges are AUD $15 for postage within Australia or AUD $30 for postage overseas.

What information is on my testamur?

Your testamur includes your name, course and level of award. Approved key programs also appear on testamurs, but majors and sub majors only appear on your Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS).

What information is on my Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)?

The graduation statement will include information about your award, academic results, course details, special awards or achievements and information about the Australian Higher Education system. The statement will be in addition to your testamur.

Course completion letters

An application for a course completion letter can only be made if you have completed your course or are about to receive your final session’s approved results.  Course completion letters will not be issued if you have an encumbrance

A $25 non refundable fee applies and must be paid through iPay before you lodge your application.

Personal collection, faxing or emailing of completion letters is not possible.

Please see course completion letter FAQs for further information.

For further enquiries regarding course completion letters please email coursecompletion@uws.edu.au.

Can I apply to graduate in the December ceremonies?

December graduation ceremonies are available to selected cohorts of students. These students will be contacted should they be able to participate.
