Lisa Giacomelli Creates Change for Good
Lisa Giacomelli graduated from UWS in 1993 with a Bachelor of Social Science (Youth Work).
Lisa now manages community and recreation services for Canterbury City Council which includes youth services, community development and recreation facilities.
'I love being in a role where I can really make a difference for individuals and communities and although that is my personal ethos, I feel it also resonates with the ethos of the University and it was a strong theme throughout my time at UWS.'
This year, Lisa made a decision to include the University of Western Sydney in her Will. Lisa’s bequest will establish a scholarship in memory of her grandmother, Dora Giacomelli.
'I want to create change for good, now and later, and to support people that, for a range of reasons, could otherwise not access such support. By giving to UWS I can have a direct impact on the lives of lots of people.'

Penrith City Council Invests in Education
Penrith City Council scholarships are inspiring students at UWS to strive for excellence. The Council funds three UWS scholarships, benefitting students in engineering, education and urban planning. The scholarships support students studying in areas of national skill shortage. By providing a total of $21,000 per year in these areas, the Council is encouraging local residents to establish their career in a vocation in which employment prospects are strong.
The City of Penrith has supported UWS since the early 1990s, offering scholarships across a range of fields, including Medicine; Contemporary Arts; and Education and Early Childhood. It is also an active supporter of the Urban Research Centre and the Centre for Cultural Research.
Penrith's strong economy is key to the city's sustainability, and Penrith City Council regards investment in education as integral to this.

Giving in Perpetuity
The Professor Kai Yip Cho Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in 2009 by the family of the late Professor Cho.
Professor Cho’s research on mushrooms and his long-term work with the Australian Mushroom Growers’ Association contributed significantly to UWS and to the field.
The family's donation supports a three-year doctoral student undertaking mushroom growing or harvesting research in biochemistry or microbiology, valued at $10,000 per annum.
This generous donation will ensure ongoing recognition for the outstanding work of Professor Cho, as well as supporting the future research of students in this unique field.
Mrs Cho and her family were moved to establish this scholarship fund at UWS in honour of the late Professor Cho‘s lifelong work and research. The donation to the UWS Foundation will be matched by the University, allowing it to grow in perpetuity.
