A Mature age student is any student that is not a current school leaver. Therefore if you were not completing year 12 when you applied to study at UWS you are considered a Mature age student.
There are a range of optional workshops available to help you with your study skills. Check out the starting out workshop below or visit the Study and life skills webpage.
Has it been a while since you wrote an essay?
Do you know what critical thinking is?
Do you want to learn how to handle large volumes of reading?
Are you unhappy with your marks?
Do you want to know more about plagiarism?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, answers are closer than you think. Just visit the Study skills workshop page.
The starting out workshop runs before the University teaching session begins and is designed for students 'returning to learning' after a significant break from education.
During the workshop you will explore issues relevant to your success as a Mature age student. Specific areas include:
You'll also have a one hour practical IT experience in a UWS computer lab.
Workshops for Spring Session 2012 will be updated closer to the time.
Prime time is the UWS Mature age students club. Come along for social activities and networking. Coffee sessions happen on Fridays, 10am-11:30am at the Kingswood Bar/Cafe (on the deck) during Autumn Session 2012. See the facebook page (opens in a new window) for more details.

MATES@UWS is about providing first year students with the opportunity to be connected with students in later years of study. It is about helping students to make social networks and acquire knowledge and skills to help them settle into life at university.
If you are interested in being involved visit the MATES@UWS webpage or email mates@uws.edu.au
