Logging in/system help

What if I don’t have a computer?

You can use the computer labs on any UWS campus to complete your Tutorial Registration.

Why does the system run slowly?

When Tutorial Registration opens the system is processing thousands of requests from students, which puts on load on the server and can slow the performance of the system. If you continuously refresh your webpage it will also increase the load on the system and slow performance further.

I can't log in

  • Did you enter your UWS student number (eight digits long) in the MyUWS Account Username box?
  • Are cookies enabled on your browser? They need to be enabled (but they should be by default on Netscape and Explorer browsers).
  • Have you changed your password at some time?

If you still can’t log in contact the IT Service Desk for help (with log in problems only) on (02) 9852 5111.

I can't connect to Platform Web

Sometimes the system is under so great a load that you cannot even connect to online Tutorial Registration. This can occur in the 20 minutes following the Tutorial Registration opening times. Try again in 10 or 15 minutes. If you still can't connect, contact the Tutorial Registration Hotline on 02 9852 5471 (if overseas +612 9852 5471).

What level are my units?

Units are graded level 1, 2, 3, 4 and in limited cases 7. Units are rated based on their difficulty, with the rating also loosely corresponding to the year you would study them (level 1 units are generally first year units). You can find out a unit’s level in advance by looking it up in the UWS Handbook, but we will also make it clear in Platform Web and MySR.

My school name is different?

The University has undergone a high level restructure so you may notice some changes to your school’s name. See the School Structure 2012 webpage for more information on these changes. The name of the school your unit belongs to is at the top of the UWS Handbook page for that unit and is also listed in Platform Web and MySR.

I added a unit but I can’t see it in Platform Web

It takes up to three hours for any changes you make to your enrolment in MySR to be reflected in Platform Web. If you still can’t see units you have added after three hours, double check that your enrolment is correct in MySR and if so, call the Tutorial Registration Hotline on 02 9852 5471 (if overseas +612 9852 5471).

Do I need to register for all of the different activity types available in a unit?

The comments in the timetable for each unit will explain exactly what you have to register in for the unit. You may need to register separately for tutorials, laboratories and practicals for the same unit. Sometimes registration in lectures is also required.

You may find that the activities that you need to register for are grouped together within the unit so that you only need to register once.

No timetable information is available for one of the units I am enrolled in

You will need to contact the School office that runs the unit to clarify whether or not they intend to timetable the unit.

No timetable button is there for one of my units in online Tutorial Registration

This could be because your enrolment in that unit is either UNCONFIRMED (which means you need to confirm your enrolment in MySR) or INVALID (which means you have not met the course and unit rules). Check the ‘Enrolment Status’ column in online Tutorial Registration and make any necessary enrolment changes in MySR.

The tutorial I want to register in is 'Not Open'

This means the unit has not opened for Tutorial Registration. Check the ‘Opening Time’ column in your Tutorial Registration table. Two units in the same school may have different opening times due to their unit level.

The tutorial I want to register in is 'Not Enabled'

A class may not be enabled because:

  • The unit is not using online registration, check for messages on that unit's ‘Notes’ in Platform Web. Contact the School if you need more help.
  • The class may be reserved and may or may not open depending on enrolment numbers. Select another class and check back later.

The tutorial I want to register in is 'Restricted'

The unit may be reserved for students from a particular course. Select another class.

The tutorial I want to register in is full

You will need to select another tutorial time. If all of the tutorials in the unit are full you may need to change your enrolment. If you must complete the unit for your course, contact the Unit Coordinator for advice.

Inevitably some tutorial times are more popular than others so you may not always get your first choice. A full-time course requires you to be available on campus 5 days a week, so the university is not able to move you from one tutorial to a full tutorial unless you have extenuating circumstances preventing you from registering in an available tutorial time.

If extenuating circumstances prevent you from registering in an available tutorial time, you may be eligible to change your tutorial time by appealing to the school via a Change of Tutorial Form. To be considered you must already be registered in a tutorial and you will need to provide evidence to support your extenuating circumstances. For more information see the Changing tutorial page.

Can I choose a tutorial on a campus other than my home campus?

You can only register in tutorials on the campus that you are enrolled in for that unit.

You can request permission from your Head of Program to enrol in a unit on a campus other than your home campus (listed in ‘Course details’ in MySR) by submitting a Rule Waiver eForm.

Confirming registration and changing registration help

Can I change my registration?

Yes, you can change your tutorial choice at any stage leading up to the start of session. Simply return to the online Tutorial Registration system and select a new tutorial time. You can change your registration details up to five times for each unit.

I submitted my selection but did not receive confirmation

This is probably because the system is under load. You need to either wait for a while or keep trying until you receive the confirmation page with your selected activities highlighted.

Your registration is confirmed if the tutorials that you have selected are highlighted by a grey bar when you log in to Platform Web and view your timetable details.
