Nominations for UWS Women of the West Award 2010 are now open.
The University of Western Sydney's (UWS) honours women in Greater Western Sydney and formally recognises their contribution to the development of the region.
Now in its sixth year, the Award continues to grow and succeeds in showcasing the diversity and strength of women in Greater Western Sydney.
You are invited to join the University in showing your regard and gratitude to a colleague, friend, acquaintance for family member by nominating them for the 2010 Women of the West Award.
This is an opportunity to publicly recognise the remarkable achievements of a women from your profession, community, or network.
The Awards are presented at the University’s annual celebration of International Women’s Day in March. Each year, nominees are drawn from a variety of backgrounds including education, health services, local industry, volunteering, environmental groups, government and non-government organisations.
Past recipients of the Women of the West award include Sister Mary-Louise Petro, Mamre Plains Ltd (winner 2005), Dr Elizabeth McCusker, Sydney West Huntington Disease Service (winner 2006), Juliana Nkrumah, Centrelink (winner 2007), Helen Walker OAM (winner 2008) and Jan Nicoll (winner 2009).
In 2008, the Young Women of the West Award was introduced as an additional category to the Award program. The Young Women of the West Award provides an opportunity to recognise young women in Greater Western Sydney aged 18–28 years, who demonstrate leadership and contribute to improving the lives of people living in the Western Sydney region. Past recipients include Lavinia Vaifo’ou (2008) and Samah Hadid (2009).
The Women of the West Award is an initiative that demonstrates the University’s advocacy of social justice and equal opportunity, and commitment to engaging with communities in GWS to establish strong and mutually beneficial relationships.
