Research in the College of Arts

About Research in Arts

The College of Arts encourages the growth of a diverse and interdisciplinary research culture through research centres, research concentrations, and schools and promotes research excellence.

The college reflects the University's research goals by aiming to:

Achieve outstanding performance in research and scholarship that is distinguished by its interdisciplinary focus and relevance to industry, government and the community.

We do this by presenting a comprehensive and targeted research development program at college level aligned to UWS strategic directions and goals; by fostering a distinctive research culture that encourages synergies across disciplines and collaboration among students, researchers and colleagues in industry, government and the community.

Increase substantially UWS’s profile in research output, income and commercialisation of findings.

We do this by enhancing college effort in research development support; by communicating research orientations, strengths and achievements.

Build productive research groups and university-wide research programs in areas that reflect UWS’s distinctive strengths and orientation to practical knowledge.

We do this by developing and maintaining a balanced profile of research concentrations; by increasing critical mass, improving governance and enhancing sustainability of research centres; by enhancing research infrastructure supporting research centres and University-wide research programs.

Develop effective research partnerships with industries, organisations and communities in Greater Western Sydney, as well as nationally and internationally.

We do this by promoting and encouraging collaboration with regional industry, government and community groups in research and consultancy; developing targeted international research links.

Achieve national and international renown for leadership and scholarship in community engagement.

We do this by identifying, coordinating and allocating resources for engagement with key communities in Greater Western Sydney and beyond.

Excel in the development and application of scholarship and knowledge in regional and community contexts.

We do this by increasing the scale and impact of research in areas of regional and community priority; by gaining recognition as a key cultural and intellectual resource for Greater Western Sydney and the wider Sydney region, and be acknowledged as the leading provider of critical thought, commentary, research and problem solving in Greater Western Sydney.

Make strategic use of resources and partnerships to provide leadership in community engagement and regional development.

We do this by providing leadership in regional development for Greater Western Sydney.

The College's research higher education focuses on well-articulated, high-impact projects under the leadership of visionary and productive researchers. We aim to provide higher degree research students with a high quality research training environment through our schools, research concentrations and research centres.

Each student receives support from a panel of trained academic advisers and supervisors, giving them broad access to intellectual development.
